Bridge Building in Physics

Students at Thornridge High School participated in a balsa wood bridge contest. The students followed the bridge guidelines as outlined by the IIT 2007 Bridge Building contest, www.iit.edu/~hsbridge/ . Mr. Sievers, Mr. Fryrear, Mr. Hedden and Mr. Fritz had all their students build bridges and test them for maximum efficiency. Efficiency is calculated by mass held divided by mass of the bridge. The students had a lot of fun building and testing their bridges. Mr. Sievers will accompany the winners of the school contest to the IIT competition held on Feb 15th to compete for prizes and scholarships. Mr. Sievers intends to make this an annual event and have students proudly represent District 205 each year at the IIT competition.
