University of Illinois Engineering Open House
Mr.
Sievers and Mrs. Willis-Moss chaperoned approximately 60 students to the
University of Illinois Engineering Open House on March 7th.
This was the 88th annual Engineering Open House. The students saw some amazing
and informative demonstrations. The students sat in
on a lecture and display for biodiesel, they saw a horizontal rocket
demonstration, a wind tunnel exhibit, a compressive/tension machine apply 1.5
million pounds of force to shatter a solid concrete pillar, a quicksand exhibit,
a railroad exhibit, concrete canoe building, small concrete slug crushing, a
driving reaction time exhibit, Talbot Lab, the Illini Union, the Newmark civil
engineering building, Engineering Hall built in 1894, and some students were
able to mix and pour their own personalized concrete samples. This open house
provided a small look into the amazing things done on a major campus and excited
students about higher education. All the students agreed it the day was fun and
informative.
