On 10/13 Mr. Sievers accompanied 5 students from Thornridge High School: Deshawn Benn, Jerome Knight, Anita Stewart, Tapiwa Saliji, and Eduardo Robinson to begin framing the deck at the house in Harvey. The students had to haul all the lumber, place and level four 4x4 timbers, cut and fasten all framing material. They gained experience using levels, identifying crowns on joists, using drills to drive deck screws, attaching carriage bolts, and general deck construction. They back filled the rigid fiber building forms and then mixed and poured the concrete in to the tubes. The students did an excellent job of working and cleaning up. The work was completed in approximately 6 hours and fun was had by all. Next week we intend to install the decking material.
