LIBRARY USAGE

Student ID Policy

  • Students must have a valid Thornridge High School, hard-copy, picture ID in order to enter the library.  The only exception for admittance with a temporary ID occurs when the student is supervised by a teacher in a scheduled library situation.  Even in this case, students are not allowed to utilize the computers or to check out materials.  

Computer Usage

  • In order to utilize computer services, students will be required to fill-out a Thornridge Library Media Services Use Contract and will receive a District 205 AUP sticker upon completion of the contract.  The sticker must be affixed to an official Thornridge High School hard copy ID.

Student Sign-In

  • Students are required to sign-in at the Attendance Desk upon entering the library.  Students must present a valid hall pass to the Attendance Desk supervisor at this time.
  • If the student requests computer services, they will be assigned to a computer station by the Attendance Desk Supervisor upon completion of the Thornridge Library Media Services Use Contract.
  • If computer services are not required, the student will be assigned to sit in a designated area.

Student Passes

  • Students should not be released from a class without a signed, official, Thornridge Hall Pass from the subject area teacher.  The pass must include the student's name, the date, the time and the destination.
  • Only one student's name should appear on a pass.  One pass should not be used for multiple students.
    • Each student must have their own individual pass.  Students will be sent back to the instructor to obtain individual passes if this occurs.
  • Teachers should not send a student to the library to work on an assignment for another instructor.
  • Teachers may send a maximum of five students on individual passes to the library.
  • Passes should never be written on notebook paper or other materials.  Please contact the Main Office to obtain additional official Thornridge Hall Passes.

Consumables

  • Food, beverages, and/or other refreshments are not permitted in the library.

Lunch Students

  • Students are required to wear their Thornridge High School, hard-copy, current, picture ID.
  • Students must arrive before the tardy bell in order to enter the facility without a pass.  Students arriving after the tardy bell must have a pass issued by a teacher.
  • Students must sign-in at the Attendance Desk.
  • Students MAY NOT EAT their lunch in the library in lieu of the cafeteria.
  • Students must wait for computer assignment by the Attendance Desk Moderator. 
    • Students must complete a Thornridge Library Media Center Use Contract before using computer services.  They may not freely surf the Internet.  Students must have an academic library assignment in order to use the computers.
  • Students must remain in the library for the entire period.
  • It may be necessary to limit lunch student access due to sign-up by scheduled classes.

Scheduling Classes

  • Teachers must allow four days notice to schedule classes and library instructional service.
  • Teachers must complete a Project Planning form and submit it to a Librarian to assist  in the facilitation and implementation of the assignment.  In addition to the Project Planning Form, teacher's should xerox enough classroom copies of the Library Media Services Use Contract for their entire class.
  • In the event that the classroom teacher is absent, the substitute teacher should remain in the classroom with alternate lesson plans provided by the teacher.  The class will be rescheduled for another day.

Substitute Teachers

  • Substitute teachers may not bring classes to the library.
  • Substitute teachers may not send students to the library on hall passes.

Saving and Printing Material

  • Students may not print directly from the Internet.  They must copy and paste the information into Microsoft Word or a similar document.
  • Students may print a maximum of 5 pages of academic material per day at no charge.  Additional pages may be printed at a cost of .10 per page.
  • PowerPoint Presentations must be printed as "handouts" and not as individual "slides".
  • Students may not save information on the hard drive of the computer.  They must save it to their own disk or their "H" drive.  Any information saved to the hard drive will be deleted.
  • Due to cost containment, students should take notes for research information.  The library will gladly print final papers.

Downloading

  • Students may not add, remove, alter. copy or download any software from and/or onto any computer.

Possessions

Students are not allowed to bring food, beverages,  hats, coats, jackets, cellular phones or book-bags in the library.

Enrichment

Enrichment takes the place of the block of time formerly known as Communication Period.  All students and especially students without a fourth block class are welcome to use this time during the day for work on assignments.

  • The library will accept a maximum of five students per teacher.  Teachers are encouraged to call the library in advance and check for availability.
  • Students may utilize the library with a hall pass issued by the enrichment block teacher for that day.
  • The library will accept as many students for computer usage as there are available computers  and supervising personnel.

Library Privileges

  • The Library Staff may request disciplinary action for a student exhibiting  inappropriate behavior.
