Project Lead The Way Inc. (PLTW) is a national program forming partnerships among Public Schools, Higher Education Institutions and the Private Sector to increase the quantity and quality of engineers and engineering technologists graduating from our education system. First developed in the 1980’s by Richard Blais who was then chairman of the Technology Department of an upstate New York school district, PLTW is now offered in over 45 states and the District of Columbia.  Thornton Township High School started PLTW during the 2004-2005 school year with the help a Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity DCEO grant and the Kern Family Foundation.  It has grown from 2 sections of 1 course, Introduction to Engineering Design during the 2004-2005 school year to 8 sections of 3 courses, Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, and Digital Electronics during the 2006-2007 school year.  During the 2007-2008 school year a 4th class, Civil Engineering and Architecture will be added to the curriculum.
