    AVID, Advancement, Via, Individual Determination is a 4-year college readiness program which begins in the freshman year. It is dedicated to helping students to be better prepared for college acceptance.  AVID provides academic support, motivation, and encouragement to students who are willing to work hard and have the desire to succeed in college.  AVID is an elective class that provides support, academic monitoring, and tutoring.  Writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading, along with tutorial study groups and study skills, are the core strategies of the program. In addition to the elective class, students are required to be enrolled concurrently in a college preparatory curriculum in the areas of English, math, science, social studies to include Honors and Advanced Placement courses. PREREQUISITES: There is an application and interview process for incoming freshman students who are interested in AVID.
