Mrs. R. Bishop
Welcome Parents, Guardians and Counselees.
I am Mrs. Razietta S. Bishop. I was born and raised in Harvey, Illinois and I am a proud graduate of Washington Elementary School, Rosa Parks Middle School, Thornton Twp. H. S. and Chicago State University (C. S. U.). The eldest daughter of a Chicago Public School teacher and a homemaker, I was taught at an early age the importance of being an educated and responsible individual. As a student, my goals were to earn grades of no less than a B, to be involved in school activities, to assist those in my community who were less fortunate than myself and to always remain an active member of my church.
I attended C. S. U. as a Presidential Scholar and majored in Mathematics - Secondary Education. Upon earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, I was blessed to be hired to teach in the high school district that I graduated from, District 205. I taught General Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II for 12 years at Thornridge High School. After my 5th year of teaching I decided to return to C. S. U. to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and a few years later completed the requirements for this degree. At the beginning of the 2002 - 2003 school year, I was hired to serve as a Professional School Counselor at Thornwood High School. For seventeen years I was committed to assisting students and their parents/guardians with academic, personal, social and emotional issues in addition to post high school planning.
Now in my 31st year, I proudly serve as Thornwood's College and Career Counselor. This role allows me to focus strictly on seeing to it that our T-Birds graduate with a post high school plan. This plan details the path to be enrolled in a 2 or 4 year college/university or technical/trade school, be enlisted in the U. S. Military or be employed.
I oversee operations and functions of the Thornwood Career Center (TW. C. C.) that is available during and after school to all students. T-birds can utilize resources and technology in the TW. C. C. along with Naviance, a college and career planning tool, to research careers and post secondary institutions, apply to colleges and universities, apply for scholarships, request transcripts and letters of recommendation, meet with college admissions representatives and receive assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Eligible students also participate in Talent Search, a TRIO program, by working with its Outreach Specialist, Ms. T. Reese, of the Family Centered Educational Agency (FCEA).
Personally, after 27+ years of marriage to the love of my life, Curtis D. Bishop, I am a recent widow who resides in the south surburbs. Khari, a miniature pinscher, keeps me active and provides me with unconditional love, comfort and companionship.
Life's journey is filled with many twists and turns. Resiliency, faith, family, education and great relationships established with knowledgeable and creative individuals have been the keys to my success. I pray that the students I serve, past, present and future, view me as one who cared and greatly contributed to their journey of being successful, educated, responsible and productive citizens in our society.
