by preparing all students for college readiness and success
in a global society.”
What is AVID?
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a rigorous college prep course designed to help students achieve their college dreams!
AVID is an elective class that students take during the school day.
AVID is an internationally known program that has proven results. For more information about the AVID program, click here!
What do you do in AVID?
In AVID, we focus on WICOR strategies - writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. AVID helps students do better in their content classes while preparing them for college.
One of the best parts about AVID is the tutorials! Every Tuesday and Thursday, there are college-aged tutors who come in to the classroom to work with students on subjects that they are struggling with. Tutorials help students improve their grades in all their classes.
Since organization is so important - AVID students must maintain their AVID Binder. It is checked weekly!
AVID promotes Cornell-style notes. All AVID students are required to take a certain number of Cornell notes each week.
Who takes AVID?
Students qualify based on a number of factors - GPA, grades, attendance, and behavior are a few.
Above all - AVID students posses individual determination to go to college and are motivated to succeed!
If you think you qualify for AVID, talk to the AVID counselor, Mrs. Perry, in C102A, or the Coordinator, Mrs. Martinez, in B211!
