Greetings students, parents, community members, alumni and all others to Thornwood Thunderbird Math and Business Territory!

My name is Ron Peterson.  I am the Division Leader for Business and Mathematics at Thornwood High School.  This is my 29th year in education.  I was a high school math teacher 27 years with 21 years teaching at Thornwood High School.  In addition to teaching, I coached for more than 10 years at Thornwood as a boy’s baseball and basketball coach.  Last year, I was the Area Instructional Leader in Mathematics for Thornton Township High School District 205.  This is my second year as an administrator of mathematics.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1989 from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  Later, I earned a Master’s degree in School Leadership from Concordia University, Chicago.  In addition, I stay up-to-date with changes, trends, and hot topics in mathematics with memberships in Illinois Council of Mathematics (ICTM) and National Council of Mathematics (NCTM).

I have a great passion for education, mathematics, technology, and student success.  My goal as an educator is to see that students succeed in math, education and life.  I love the challenges that we are faced with in education and mathematics.  I am a problem solver.  I love to solve puzzles and work with my hands.  I have spent countless hours with my 4 year old son putting together, taking apart, rebuilding and creating with puzzles, Legos, magnets and robots.  These experiences remind me of the importance of patience, persistence and flexibility when working with students.

My primary goal is to support all of the math, business and AVID teachers at Thornwood.  These are the individuals that are at the forefront to the success of our students in math and business.  I will provide teachers with the necessary supplies, tools and technology to engage and inspire our students.  I want to see each of our graduates leave Thornwood with the highest academic foundation in mathematics, business and technology to be prepared for college or a career.

I am very excited about this school year and the successes from our students. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Have a great day!
