Scholarships are gifts, you do not have to pay them back. Scholarships can be based on need or merit or both. You may receive scholarships from colleges, organizations, or foundations.
Different scholarships are available for different types of students. Scholarships may be based on your grades, what you want to study in college, whether you are male or female, or your after-school activities.
Completing the application for a scholarship does not guarantee you will receive it. You are competing with all of the other applicants that completed and submitted the scholarship paperwork. It may take many applications and essays before you actually receive a scholarship award.
You can improve your chances of getting a scholarship by:
Getting good grades
Doing well on the ACT or SAT tests
Submitting your college applications early
Meeting deadlines and eligibility criteria
Following directions carefullyThere are no guarantees except you are guaranteed not to receive scholarships you don’t apply for. So apply, apply, apply! If you are not getting a favorable response ask someone to review your application /essays before you apply to any other scholarships they may have some needed tips for improvement.
When applying for scholarships, pay attention to the deadlines and the eligibility criteria. Follow the directions carefully. You are responsible for completing and submitting all information needed for the scholarships unless otherwise noted.
In addition to this local list please make sure you are registered and checking with the financial aid and scholarship at the school you are applying to, the TTCCC web page and other scholarship search sites such as:
