How We Communicate During Emergencies and Closures
District 205 is committed to keeping students, families, and our communities informed quickly and accurately whenever a safety concern, closure, or other urgent situation affects our schools. Student and staff safety comes first; clear, timely communication follows immediately after.
How We Communicate
Immediate safety concerns (such as a lockdown or reported threat) are communicated within 30 minutes of confirmation, through emergency text and call alerts, a website banner, and social media.
Weather-related or emergency closures are decided the evening before when possible, or by 6:00–6:30 a.m. the day of, and shared through local TV and radio, emergency alerts, our website, and social media.
Ongoing or sensitive situations receive an initial statement within a few hours confirming what is known, with updates shared as more information is confirmed.
Where to Find Updates
- District website: district205.net
- District social media: Facebook, Twitter/X, and Instagram
- Emergency text and call alerts sent to the phone numbers on file for your student
- Local news media, when appropriate
Media Inquiries
Reporters covering a developing situation should contact the Public Relations Department directly. Interviews on campus require prior approval from Public Relations and the Superintendent's office, and visiting media must check in at the school's main office.

Our Commitment
We share information as soon as it is confirmed, even while a situation is still developing, and we follow up as more is known. We also honor family requests regarding photo and video restrictions, consistent with FERPA.
