Director of Research, Assessment & Quality Analysis
Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Robert Penman
Welcome to the Research, Assessment & Quality Analysis Department of Thornton Township High Schools District 205.
After receiving my Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics at Purdue University, I entered the education sector of which I have been part for 31 years. I then went on to get two Master’s Degrees - one in Educational Administration from Purdue University, and the other in Technical Education with a focus on STEM leadership from Illinois State University.
My department is responsible for much of the data collection and analysis, state data reporting, and student information system support.
Some of my day-to-day departmental duties include
- Powerschool Adminstration
- Managing other systems that connect to PowerSchool
- Data and Research
- State Reporting
The research department also collaborates with other District 205 departments including the business department for online registration and fee payments, and the HR department for hiring and staffing needs and data requests.
The first ten years of my career were spent teaching math in East Chicago, Indiana Public Schools.
For the past 21 years, I have served in various capacities in District 205. I started as a math teacher at Thornton and taught everything from Pre-High School Math to AP Calculus. I also served as a department chair, math coach, district data coach, and Area Instructional Leader before becoming the Director of Research, Assessment & Quality Analysis.
I look forward to another wonderful year at District 205 and will continue to move forward with the best interest of our students and staff in mind!
