Current Projects Overview
In March 2025, Thornton Township High School District 205 celebrated a historic milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony for state-of-the-art athletic fields at its three high schools: Thornridge High School in Dolton, Thornton Township High School in Harvey, and Thornwood High School in South Holland. This major investment will provide student-athletes with modern, high-quality facilities that elevate athletic programs and strengthen school spirit throughout the district.
Superintendent Dr. Nathaniel Cunningham welcomed attendees and reaffirmed the district’s commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics. “This project represents more than new athletic fields—it’s an investment in our students, our schools, and the future of our community,” said Dr. Cunningham. “These new facilities will give our student-athletes the tools they need to thrive and compete at the highest level.”
This transformative initiative is made possible, in part, by $19 million in state funding secured by State Senator Napoleon Harris, III. “Our students deserve access to the same top-tier athletic facilities as any other school in Illinois,” said Harris (D-Harvey). “Thornton Township matters—and I will continue to fight for the investment and recognition our community rightfully deserves.”
Senator Harris joined district officials and community leaders at the groundbreaking ceremony, officially launching the 2025 stadium improvement projects. Construction is now underway at all three campuses and includes new AstroTurf football fields along with upgraded facilities for track, football, soccer, and other sports.
“Senator Napoleon Harris has long been a steadfast advocate for the students of Thornton Township,” said Board of Education President Nina Graham. “His leadership and commitment to securing vital resources from Springfield continue to make a profound impact on our schools and the families we serve.”
