OUTLOOK ACADEMY GOALS

Outlook Academy is committed to:

  • Providing credit recovery opportunities for students who have dropped out, non-graduating seniors, and incoming seniors identified as being at risk of not graduating by May of their senior year.
  • Considering incoming juniors for enrollment when seats are available in the program.
  • Offering students who are deficient in credits the opportunity to complete required coursework in an alternative setting that provides academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and life-readiness support.
  • Supporting students in developing the skills, confidence, and readiness needed to pursue postsecondary education, career pathways, and employment opportunities.
  • Increasing student growth, achievement, and performance in both academic and real-world settings.
  • Establishing individualized learning plans for each student that incorporate a research-based curriculum delivered through teacher-led instruction and supported by computer-based learning tailored to each student’s unique needs.
  • Ensuring that all courses offered within the program are district-approved and aligned with Common Core and Illinois State Standards.
  • Increasing the annual number of students who earn a Thornton Township High School District 205 diploma.
  • Ensuring that students who complete the Outlook Academy program are prepared to be enrolled, enlisted, and/or employed.

Instructional Strategies Include:

  • An Individualized Learning Plan that utilizes a research-based curriculum that is teacher-led and tailored to each student's individual needs.
  • Differentiated instructional methods to meet the various learning styles of our students.
  • Implementation of district-approved academic content aligned with Common Core and State Standards.
  • Real-time formative assessments to check for understanding and adjustments to instruction.
  • Teachers collect and review formative assessment data on a weekly basis through Edulastic and adjust instruction to ensure best practices align with growth in achievement.
  • Integration of social and emotional support to help scaffold academic instruction

Impact on Student Achievement:

Outlook Academy succeeds in the development of the whole individual student by utilizing a non-traditional educational environment and approach to education. At the forefront of our program is the integration of SEL practices, Restorative Justice practices, and adult transitional supports. School culture consists of a caring atmosphere exemplified by mutual respect among teachers and students. Situated inside South Suburban College (SSC), away from the traditional high school environment, students are surrounded by and enveloped in an educational environment, community, and culture that inspires and motivates OA students to achieve academic success.
