Thornwood and Thornridge High Schools Summer Closure for Renovations

Thornton Township High School District 205 recently announced a significant development in its ongoing efforts to improve school infrastructure. With substantial funding secured for infrastructure improvement projects, the district aims to address challenges posed by aging facilities and create better learning environments.

Approximately $120 million in borrowing authority, coupled with historically low debt levels, allows the district to initiate projects without increasing the debt levy. These projects include updating HVAC systems, renovating classrooms, and making essential modifications to exterior surfaces.

To prioritize projects, in 2023 the district conducted a community survey to gather input from stakeholders, ensuring transparency and involvement. As a result, Thornwood High School in South Holland and Thornridge High School in Dolton are currently undergoing significant renovations during the summer months.

Thornwood High School will receive new roofs, among other improvements, during the closure. Thornridge will also receive a new roof. The full school closures are necessary to ensure the safety of all involved as construction crews work on-site. Trespassing is prohibited during school closures.

With construction underway, the district remains committed to progress and looks forward to welcoming students back to revitalized schools in the upcoming academic year.
